How to Generate a DxDiag Report

Generating a DxDiag (DirectX Diagnostic Tool) report is a standard troubleshooting step for Windows users. It provides a comprehensive snapshot of a computer's hardware, drivers, and software environment, which is essential for diagnosing display or connection issues with Duet Display.

How to Generate a DxDiag Report

Follow these steps to create a report for our support team:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard simultaneously.
  2. In the "Open" box, type dxdiag and press Enter or click OK.
  3. A window titled "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" will appear. Wait for the green progress bar in the bottom-left corner to finish loading.
  4. Click the Save All Information... button located at the bottom of the window.
  5. Save the file (usually named DxDiag.txt) to a location where you can easily find it, such as your Desktop.
  6. Attach this .txt file to your support ticket or email reply.

Why we need this for Duet Display

Since Duet Display relies heavily on your system's Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and Display Drivers, the DxDiag report helps us identify:

  • Driver Version: Whether your graphics drivers are outdated.
  • System Resources: If your PC meets the minimum requirements for Duet Display.
  • Conflicts: Any third-party software or virtual display drivers that might be interfering with Duet.

Quick Tips

If you see "WHQL: No" next to your driver information in the report, it often means your drivers aren't digitally signed or are outdated. Updating them can often solve connection lag immediately.

A DxDiag report contains information about your hardware and drivers, but it does not collect personal files, passwords, or browsing history.
